Summary

Georgia’s EPAMD rules keep stand-up scooters on ≤35 mph streets or bike lanes, limit speeds to 7 mph on sidewalks/15 mph elsewhere, and require lights, reflectors, and braking power before you roll after dark.

Detailed Information

Georgia treats most shared stand-up scooters as electric personal assistive mobility devices (EPAMDs). O.C.G.A. §40-6-320 lets them mix with traffic only where the posted limit is 35 mph or lower (or inside a bike lane) and requires operators to leave a 48-inch ADA path and yield to anyone walking or using a wheelchair. O.C.G.A. §40-6-322 caps EPAMD speeds at 7 mph on sidewalks and 15 mph everywhere else, while §40-6-325 mandates front/rear/side reflectors, a white headlamp after dark, and brakes that can stop the device. Operating one while impaired remains a misdemeanor under §40-6-326, so DUI rules apply even if you’re riding a scooter.
