With the right tools and some patience, changing the back tire can be a simple process. In this article, we'll walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to change the back tire on your electric scooter.
Step 1: Gather Tools and Materials
To change the back tire on your electric scooter, you'll need the following tools and materials:
- Wrenches or an adjustable wrench
- Tire levers
- A new inner tube or tire (if required)
- Pump or electric inflator
- Allen key or screwdriver (if needed to remove fender or motor cover)
Step 2: Secure Your Scooter
Place your electric scooter in a position where it's secure and the back tire will be easy to access. You can either use an e-scooter stand or lay the scooter on its side.
Step 3: Remove the Rear Fender and Motor Cover
Depending on your scooter model, you may need to remove the rear fender or motor cover to access the tire. Use an Allen key or screwdriver to remove any bolts or screws holding the fender or cover in place.
Step 4: Remove the Wheel
Use the appropriate wrench to loosen the nuts on both sides of the rear wheel. Make sure to keep track of any spacers or washers that may come off when removing the axle. After loosening the nuts, carefully slide the wheel out from the frame, keeping an eye on any brake cables or wiring connected to the motor.
Step 5: Deflate the Tire
Before removing the tire and tube, make sure to deflate the tire completely. If you're replacing just the inner tube, deflate the tire by pressing down on the valve stem and releasing the air.
Step 6: Remove the Tire and Inner Tube
Using tire levers, pry the tire away from the rim and carefully peel it off the rim along with the inner tube if you're replacing it. If you're replacing just the tire, remove it from the wheel by leveraging it off the rim with the tire levers.
Step 7: Install the New Tire or Inner Tube
Place the new inner tube, partially inflated, inside the new tire or original tire if still usable. If replacing the tire, ensure it's facing in the right direction. Place the wheel rim into the tire and work the tire edges around the rim using your hands or tire levers.
Step 8: Inflate the New Tire
Once the tire and tube are properly seated on the wheel, use a pump or electric inflator to inflate the tire to the recommended PSI listed on the scooter or tire.
Step 9: Reinstall the Rear Wheel
Reinsert any spacers, washers and position the rear wheel back in its place within the scooter frame. Tighten the nuts back on, making sure the wheel spins freely and the brake is properly situated. Reattach any motor wiring if applicable.
Step 10: Reattach Fender and Motor Cover
Place the motor cover and fender back on and secure them properly with any bolts or screws.
Congratulations! You have now successfully changed the back tire on your electric scooter. Give the scooter a test run to ensure everything is working properly and get back to enjoying your rides on the road.
