Choosing the Right Battery Capacity for Your Electric Bike
Electric bikes (e-bikes) have surged in popularity as a sustainable and fitness-friendly transportation option. One of the most vital components of an e-bike is its battery. The battery determines not only the distance an e-bike can travel on a single charge but also influences the overall weight and performance of the bike.
When considering 'how much battery' you need for your electric bike, you should take into account several factors, including your daily commute distance, the terrain you'll be traveling on, your weight, and the average speed you prefer.
Battery capacity is measured in watt-hours (Wh), which is a unit of energy. It is a product of the voltage (V) and the amp-hours (Ah) of the battery. For example, a 36V battery with a 10Ah capacity will give you 360Wh. Typically, e-bike batteries range from 250Wh to 1000Wh.
A smaller capacity battery (250Wh to 350Wh) might be sufficient for short daily commutes and flat terrains. However, for longer commutes, or if you often ride on hills or carry heavy loads, you may require a larger capacity battery, ranging from 400Wh to 700Wh.
