Firstly, it's important to understand that e-bikes come with different modes of operation. There's the pedal-assist mode, where the electric motor only kicks in to augment your pedaling efforts. This means you'll still be pedaling, but it'll feel easier, especially when climbing hills or accelerating. The more effort you put in, the less the motor has to work and vice versa. Then there's the throttle mode, found on some e-bikes, which can propel the bike without any pedaling at all - handy for when you need a break or are starting from a standstill.
The extent of pedaling required also depends on the level of assistance you select. Many e-bikes come with different assistance settings, ranging from low to high. A lower setting will require more pedaling effort from the rider while providing a longer battery range. On the higher end, the bike does more work, which means less pedaling but a quicker depletion of the battery.
The terrain you're riding on is another consideration. Flat city streets won't demand as much effort as hilly or rugged trails. Your fitness level and the distance you
