Scanning a Foreign License for Electric Scooters: A Step-by-Step Guide
Exploring a new city on electric scooters is a fun and convenient way to get around, but as a foreigner, you may be wondering how to scan your license to use these scooter services. Fear not! We've got you covered in this step-by-step guide on scanning your foreign license for electric scooters.
Step 1: Choose a scooter-sharing service
As a foreign tourist, you can access popular scooter-sharing platforms such as Lime, Bird, or Spin. Download the respective app on your smartphone and create an account using your email address, phone number, and a password for security purposes.
Step 2: Locate a scooter
Use the app to find the nearest available scooter, marked by an icon on the map. Once you’ve found one, you’re ready to start the process of scanning your license.
Step 3: Scanning your license
Before you hop on and go, you'll need to scan your foreign license. Open the app and follow these steps:
a. Tap on the menu icon (typically in the upper left or right corner of the app)
b. In the settings, select “Add Driver’s License” (name can vary between apps)
c. You will be prompted to take a photo of your license
d. Place your license on a flat surface and ensure it is well-lit, with no glare or obstructions blocking any information
e. Align your phone’s camera with your license and take a clear, legible photograph
f. The app will ask for a picture of your face as well. Look straight into the camera, ensuring that your face is evenly lit and free of any obstructions, then take the photo
g. Check that the information on the photograph matches the details on your scooter account (e.g. name, birthdate, etc.)
h. Submit the photos for verification
Step 4: Verification and unlocking the scooter
It may take a few minutes for your license to be verified. Upon successful verification, you will receive a notification, and you're ready to unlock the scooter!
To unlock the scooter, scan the scooter’s QR code (usually located on the handlebars) with the app. Payment will typically be through the app, so make sure to add your preferred payment method.
That’s it! You’re now all set to explore the streets on your electric scooter. Happy scooting!
Remember to stay safe by wearing a helmet, abiding by local traffic rules, and avoiding heavily congested areas.
