The Origins of the Electric Scooter: A Brief History
The development of the electric scooter that we know and love today can be traced back over multiple decades. As the need for efficient and eco-friendly transportation grew, so did the advancements in electric scooter technology. The first patent filed for an electric scooter in the United States dates back to September 1895. This patent, filed by inventor Ogden Bolton Jr., depicted a bicycle-like design with an additional motor to power the vehicle. Fast forward to 1936, and the first proper electric scooter was developed by W. C. Bradley of Hollywood, California. Bradley's innovative design featured a two-wheel scooter with a battery compartment and separate footpad for riding. During the 1990s, a company called Go-Ped introduced a stand-up scooter that resembled the modern design we are familiar with today. The 21st century saw the fast-paced development of electric scooters, leading to various improvements in efficiency, speed, and safety. Nowadays, electric scooters have become a popular mode of clean, quiet transportation enjoyed by millions around the globe.
