Summary

Long Beach launched a 12-month Beach Bike Path pilot on May 24, 2025: Bird and Lime riders can enter the shoreline path between Alamitos Ave. and 54th Place if they stay in the bike lane, cap speed at 15 mph (5 mph near pedestrians), and park only in the new seaside corrals.

Detailed Information

The GoActiveLB micromobility program renewed 12-month permits (currently Bird and Lime) and opened the Shoreline Pedestrian Bikepath to both private and shared e-scooters for a data-driven pilot that runs May 24, 2025–May 2026. Municipal code updates require scooters to remain on the beach path’s striped bike lane, obey the statewide 15 mph limit with automated 5 mph slow zones in crowded segments, and use the temporary corrals the City of Long Beach is installing along Alamitos Beach, Junipero Beach, and Belmont Shore; operators must rebalance fleets daily using zero-emission methods. Outside the pilot, the citywide program still limits each vendor to 12-month permits, enforces parking in corrals or the furniture zone, and collects trip/parking metrics to decide whether to keep scooters on the shoreline permanently.
