A Mi electric scooter is an excellent mode of transportation for short trips and commutes, but like any other vehicle, it requires maintenance from time to time. One essential upkeep task is changing the tires, which you may need to do when they lose grip or become punctured. In this guide, we'll explain how to change tires safely and efficiently on a Mi electric scooter.
Step 1: Gather your tools and equipment
To complete this task, you'll need the following tools:
- Puncture repair kit (with tire levers)
- Air pump
- Allen wrench (4mm and 5mm)
- Protective gloves
Step 2: Power off your scooter and prop it up
Before you begin, ensure your scooter is powered off to avoid any accidental activation. Position your scooter on a sturdy flat surface. You can place the rear tire against a wall or use a bike stand for stabilizing the scooter.
Step 3: Remove the wheels from your scooter
Using your Allen wrench, unscrew the bolts that secure the wheels to the scooter. There should be four screws for the front wheel and three for the rear wheel. Once you've removed these screws, carefully detach the wheel from the scooter.
Step 4: Deflate the tire and remove it from the rim
Before proceeding, make sure to deflate the tire. Use your tire levers to pry the tire off the rim. Start at one point of the tire and carefully work your way around until the tire is free from the rim.
Step 5: Inspect the tire and inner tube for damage
Examine the tire and check for any visible damages, such as cuts or punctures. If you find any, determine whether repairing the tire is feasible, or if it's necessary to replace it entirely. If you're using an inner tube, check for any leaks or punctures and repair or replace as needed.
Step 6: Install your new or repaired tire
Place the new or repaired tire onto the rim. If you're using an inner tube, make sure to insert it between the tire and rim, ensuring it's evenly positioned and free of twists or folds. Use your tire levers to help slip the tire's edges back onto the rim, working your way around until it's in place.
Step 7: Inflate the tire to the correct pressure
Check your Mi electric scooter user manual for the recommended tire pressure. Once you've determined the correct pressure, use an air pump to inflate the tire, ensuring even inflation.
Step 8: Reattach the wheels
Once the tire is inflated and secured on the rim, carefully place the wheel back onto your scooter and reattach it using your Allen wrench. Ensure the screws are tight to maximize safety and stability.
With your newly changed tires, your Mi electric scooter is ready for more smooth rides and better performance in various conditions. Regularly check your tires for wear and damage to keep your scooter in top form.
