Traveling with Non-Electric Scooters: A Guide to Airline Policies
When it comes to traveling with non-electric scooters, airline policies can vary greatly. Traditionally seen as a fun and practical means of transportation for both children and adults, scooters can make exploring a new destination an absolute pleasure. However, it is important to understand which airlines allow non-electric scooters to ensure a smooth and hassle-free trip.
Most airlines treat non-electric scooters as a piece of luggage, and as such, they can be checked in as part of your baggage allowance. Nonetheless, it’s important to confirm the specific policies of each airline before booking your flight. To make that process easier, we’ve compiled a list of popular airlines and their policies regarding non-electric scooters.
American Airlines – Non-electric scooters are allowed as checked luggage, provided they can be collapsed or disassembled to fit within the airline’s maximum size requirements (62 inches/157cm in total dimensions).
Delta Airlines – Delta allows non-electric scooters as checked baggage, as long as they meet the size and weight requirements. Additional fees may apply if your scooter and other checked luggage exceed your allowance.
United Airlines – United allows non-electric scooters to be checked as long as the scooter and its case do not exceed 50 lbs (23 kg) in weight and 62 linear inches (157 cm) in total dimensions.
Southwest Airlines – Scooters are accepted as checked luggage on Southwest, as long as they meet the size and weight requirements (max 50 lbs and 62 inches total dimensions).
British Airways – Non-electric scooters are allowed as part of your checked baggage allowance, provided they meet the size and weight requirements (max 51 lbs and 35.5 x 29.5 x 16 inches).
Overall, most major airlines will allow non-electric scooters as checked luggage, provided they meet the size and weight requirements. It is always advised to check with your preferred airline beforehand to avoid any complications during your trip. Additionally, make sure to properly package your scooter in a protective case or wrap it securely to avoid any damage during handling and transport. Safe and happy travels!
