Connecting an Electric Scooter Dashboard to a Square Box Dashboard
Electric scooters have become widely popular for their eco-friendly nature, compact design, and accessibility. One crucial component of an electric scooter is its dashboard, which keeps riders informed about essential information such as remaining battery life, speed, and more. This article will guide you through the process of connecting an electric scooter dashboard to a square box dashboard.
First, it is important to identify the type of electric scooter dashboard you have. There are primarily two types: the circular one that comes with most scooters and the square box dashboard, which is usually an aftermarket addition. In this tutorial, we will focus on connecting the square box dashboard.
Step 1: Turn off your electric scooter
Before working on any electrical system, it is crucial to ensure that the device is powered off to avoid any electrical hazards.
Step 2: Acquire the necessary tools and supplies
To connect the two dashboards, you will need a Philips head screwdriver, wire stripper, electrical tape, soldering iron, and heat shrink tubing.
Step 3: Open the existing dashboard
Using your Philips head screwdriver, remove the screws holding your current dashboard in place. Gently pull the dashboard to expose the wiring connections.
Step 4: Identify the wiring connections
On the original dashboard, locate the wires that provide power, ground, and data transmission. There will likely be a red wire (power), black wire (ground), and a white or green wire (data). Check the square box dashboard and identify the corresponding wires.
Step 5: Disconnect the original dashboard
Once you have identified the necessary wires, disconnect the original dashboard by cutting the wires as close to the dashboard as possible, leaving plenty of wire length to connect the new dashboard. Strip the ends of the wires to expose the metal conductors.
Step 6: Connect the new dashboard
Using your soldering iron, connect the power, ground, and data wires from the square box dashboard to the corresponding wires on your scooter. Make sure to slide the heat shrink tubing onto the wires before soldering. Once the wires are soldered, use a heat source (e.g., lighter or heat gun) to shrink the tubing around the soldered connections. This will help protect and insulate the connection.
Step 7: Secure the new dashboard
After connecting the wires, secure the square box dashboard in place using screws or adhesive, ensuring that it is properly aligned and installed.
Step 8: Test your new dashboard
Turn on your electric scooter and ensure that your new square box dashboard is functioning correctly, displaying accurate information such as battery life, speed, and other relevant data.
Congratulations, you have successfully connected your electric scooter dashboard to a square box dashboard! Now you can enjoy your upgraded dashboard that provides more information and enhances your overall riding experience.
